About Kodaikanal Tourism

Kodaikanal "Princess of Hill Stations" is located above the southern escarpment of the upper Palani Hills at 2,133 metres (6,998 ft), between the Parappar and Gundar Valleys. These hills form the eastward spur of the Western Ghats on the Western side of South India, and also buffer zone of Annamalai Tiger Reserve. It stands majestically with Green Spread Mountains and forest all around. The unique forests, grasslands located near Kodaikanal.

In 1906 the first proper Reserve Forest was created and presently the notification of a 736 sq. kms The Sanctuary is highly diverse in its topography, altitude, rainfall, climate and temperature. Despite the prevalence of exotic flora the Kodaikanal home to a variety of animals such as gaur, sambar, leopard, wild dog, muntjac and several smaller mammals. The birdlife is also abundant comprising of over 200 species and the area is particularly rich in reptiles and amphibians several of which are endemic like the uropeltid snakes. The insect life is also extremely rich. Diversity of landscape and its components enchants one and all alike be he a tourist, a trekker, an anthropologist, a wildlifer or a naturalist.

Reaching Kodaikanal

Reaching Kodaikanal from Palani and then by road to Kodai 65kms. There are regular buses from Palani. The bus returns to Palani also available.

Reaching Kodaikanal from Vathalakundu driving distance  is 61 kms. There are regular buses from Vathalakundu to Kodai. Some special buses from Madurai, Theni and Kodairoad is available.

Topslip is located above the 800 feet from the sea level on the Anamalai mountain range and in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.


Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is the most protected ecological piece of Anamalai Mountain sub part of Western Ghats,

Aliyar Dam

Aliyar Dam is a reservoir located 27 KM away from pollachi on the foothills of Valparai, in the Anamalai range of the Western Ghats, Park, aquarium and Monkey Falls are the best spots.
